The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Yayu Musa in connection with the gruesome murder of a 50-year-old woman, identified as Atayi Abdul, in Olla Community, Omala Local Government Area of the state.
According to preliminary investigations, the tragic incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025. The suspect allegedly deceived the victim by luring her to her farm under the guise that some individuals were stealing palm fruits from the property.
Tragically, upon reaching the farm, the woman was ambushed and reportedly stabbed to death by Musa, who used a knife to carry out the fatal attack.
Following the incident, law enforcement officers were swiftly dispatched to the crime scene. The area was cordoned off and documented, with photographs taken for evidentiary purposes. The suspect was subsequently apprehended and is now in police custody as investigations continue.
Although the motive behind the murder is still under investigation, a family member of the deceased, Lawal Abdulazeez Muhammed, claimed that the attack stemmed from a personal grievance.
According to him, the suspect had previously expressed a desire to marry the victim’s daughter but allegedly resorted to violence when his proposal was declined.
In a development that may hinder further forensic examination, the family of the deceased declined to allow her body to be taken for an autopsy, citing adherence to religious and cultural customs. Consequently, she was buried shortly after the incident in line with traditional burial rites.
Due to rising tension within the community, the police command has deployed a joint security task force to maintain peace and prevent any potential outbreak of violence or reprisal attacks.
The authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crime and to ensure that justice is served.
