Three suspected members of a deadly “one-chance” robbery syndicate have been apprehended by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of a 23-year-old woman, Grace Godwin Alewa.
IREPORT247NEWS that the tragic event occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, when Grace, who worked as a fuel station attendant, was reportedly kidnapped while on her way home from work. Her lifeless body was discovered the following morning, Saturday, July 12, abandoned along Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in the Jabi District of Abuja.
The horrifying news of her murder triggered an outpouring of grief and public outrage, especially within her local community. Comrade Adanu Andrew, President of the Voice of Apa and Agatu Initiative for Development, confirmed the identity of the deceased and revealed that she hailed from Ekaida, a community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Benneth Igweh, immediately launched a manhunt for those responsible. He directed all tactical and intelligence units under his command to intensify operations aimed at tracking down “one-chance” syndicates operating in the capital city.
Acting swiftly on these directives, the Police Scorpion Squad, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Victor Godfrey, embarked on a series of coordinated intelligence-led raids between July 12 and July 26. The operations culminated in the arrest of three primary suspects:
- Sunday Uduma a.k.a. Akidi, aged 39, from Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State;
- Godwin Eze, aged 39, from Cross River State; and
- Nnaiji Ikenna, aged 33, from Imo State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing credible police sources, reported that the suspects were apprehended through what was described as “actionable reconstructive digital intelligence.” These operations reportedly yielded confessional statements directly linking the arrested individuals to the abduction and killing of Grace Alewa.
In a significant breakthrough, police operatives also recovered a black Mazda 323—the vehicle allegedly used during the heinous crime. The vehicle is now in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Further findings revealed a troubling history for one of the suspects. Sunday Uduma, also known as Akidi, had previously been arrested on February 11, 2024, in connection with a similar “one-chance” robbery case and was remanded at Keffi Correctional Facility. However, it remains unclear how he was released and subsequently found his way back into criminal activities.
The FCT Police Command has confirmed that all suspects remain in custody and will be formally charged to court upon the completion of investigations. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing the perpetrators of this crime to justice and ensuring that the capital city is safe for all residents.
