South African Grammy-winning pop sensation, Tyla, has shared heartfelt details about her collaboration with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, expressing deep admiration for his role in elevating African music globally.

In an exclusive interview with Capital Xtra, London, the Water hitmaker revealed that their now-viral collaboration, Dynamite, was recorded three years ago—long before she achieved international recognition. Tyla, who rose to global stardom in 2023, disclosed that Wizkid’s willingness to work with her at that early stage in her career still amazes her.
“I was new when I linked up with Wizkid. A lot of people didn’t know me. I didn’t expect him to be down for a session, but he was,” Tyla said.
She recalled how she had been obsessed with the song long before its official release:
“He liked some of the stuff I played him, and we made Dynamite. I’ve been sitting on the demo for three years, dancing to it every day in my room and hoping one day I would get to drop it.”
The collaboration has since become one of the most talked-about Afrobeats-Pop crossovers in 2025, solidifying Wizkid’s reputation for identifying and supporting emerging talents.

The 23-year-old star praised Wizkid for his consistency and influence in taking African music to the global stage.
“Wizkid has done so much for the culture, pushing our music and bringing eyes towards our creatives back home. He is just the best. I don’t think he has one bad song. He’s too good, and I admire how talented he is. He has evolved throughout the years,” Tyla gushed.
This is not the first time Tyla has publicly appreciated Wizkid’s impact. Industry watchers have often credited the Essence crooner for opening doors for young African acts in the international music space.
Tyla made history at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024 when she won the inaugural Best African Music Performance category with her chart-topping single Water. The song became a viral TikTok sensation, catapulting her into global superstardom and establishing her as one of Africa’s fastest-rising stars.
Meanwhile, Wizkid continues to solidify his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest music exports, boasting multiple international awards and billions of streams across platforms.
While Tyla has not confirmed whether more collaborations with Wizkid are in the works, industry insiders believe the two stars might team up for another major project following the success of Dynamite.
Fans are already anticipating a live performance of the hit song, which could potentially happen during Tyla’s upcoming world tour or Wizkid’s much-rumoured stadium concert later this year.
