Tragedy struck in Igbile-Ijebu, Ogun State, as the decomposing body of a 16-year-old boy, Master Lawal Wahab, was discovered with several of his body parts gruesomely removed in what is suspected to be a ritual killing.
The heartbreaking discovery was made on July 23, 2025, along the Old Express Road, and has since thrown the local community into deep mourning. Wahab, who had been living with his grandmother, was reported missing by his father, Mr. Lawal Olumide, days before his mutilated remains were found.
According to police reports, the victim’s corpse was severely dismembered — his head, both wrists, heart, and genitals were missing — a detail that has led investigators to conclude that the murder bore the hallmarks of a ritualistic act.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command described it as a “horrific and inhumane crime.” The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Omolola Odutola, stated that law enforcement officers from the Omu-Ijebu Division promptly swung into action and have so far apprehended three suspects linked to the killing.
Those in custody include 25-year-old Salawu Omikansola, Serefusi Agemo, and others whose names are being withheld for investigative reasons.
CSP Odutola revealed that one of the suspects has already confessed voluntarily to the crime, with the confession recorded on video as part of the evidence. She further explained that preliminary findings support strong indications of a ritual motive, given the targeted removal of specific body parts.
Due to the condition of the remains, Wahab was buried promptly in accordance with Islamic rites, as confirmed by police authorities.
In a statement, the Police Command strongly condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and utterly unacceptable.” The case file, along with all gathered exhibits, is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran for further, more in-depth investigations.
Efforts are also underway to track down and apprehend other suspects who are currently on the run. The police have urged the public to assist with information and to remain alert to suspicious activities within their communities.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served,” CSP Odutola assured. “We call on all citizens to report any information that could aid in the arrest of those still at large. Together, we can root out evil from our society.”
