In a major push to tackle the housing deficit in Nigeria, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish new Renewed Hope Cities across four additional geopolitical zones, while also expanding its Renewed Hope Estates initiative to 24 more states.

This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader vision to deliver affordable and accessible housing to millions of Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, made this known during his official inspection of the 2,000-unit Renewed Hope City project in Kano on Friday, July 25, 2025. His comments were contained in a statement published on the ministry’s official website.

According to the statement, new Renewed Hope Cities are set to be developed in the North Central, South South, North East, and South East zones of the country. These developments are in addition to the cities already underway in Kano, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which are reportedly nearing completion.

“The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, is currently constructing 250-unit Renewed Hope Estates in 12 states across the six geopolitical zones,” the statement said. “Arrangements are now being finalized to launch similar projects in the remaining 24 states.”

The Renewed Hope Estates and Cities are designed to provide decent and affordable housing for Nigerians of all backgrounds, and they form the core of President Tinubu’s housing strategy aimed at addressing the growing demand for urban shelter in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding cities.

Each Renewed Hope City is a large-scale residential development equipped with modern infrastructure, green spaces, and essential public facilities, while the smaller Renewed Hope Estates aim to serve semi-urban and peri-urban areas.

Dangiwa further announced that the Kano Renewed Hope City, which comprises 2,000 housing units, is expected to be completed by August 2025. This is in line with the timeline set for similar projects in Abuja and other locations.

He added that the 3,112-unit Karsana Renewed Hope City in Abuja is also progressing well and is on track for completion within the same timeframe, though the official commissioning might be delayed due to the ongoing construction of access roads.

The minister also reassured contractors working on the various housing sites that the government remains committed to its financial obligations.

He acknowledged existing delays in payments but pledged that outstanding funds would be disbursed as soon as possible. Dangiwa urged all contractors not to be discouraged and to continue working diligently to meet the project deadlines.

“The commitment of this administration to affordable housing is unwavering,” he stated. “We will ensure that no state is left behind in the Renewed Hope agenda.”

The Renewed Hope Housing Programme is one of the central pillars of President Tinubu’s economic recovery plan, intended to stimulate job creation, reduce homelessness, and revitalize the construction sector.
