In a historic move celebrating homegrown talents, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos after award-winning indigenous rapper and YBNL music executive, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.

The announcement was made on Friday, July 25, 2025, by the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, during the inauguration of new infrastructural projects in the council area. According to Alabi, the renaming of major streets and landmarks is part of efforts to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the Nigerian entertainment and cultural landscape.
Speaking at the event, Alabi stated that Ajidagan Street has been renamed Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street, and consequently, the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop will now be officially called Baddo Bus Stop.
“Ajidagan Street will now be called Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. That means Charly Boy Bus Stop will now be called Baddo Bus Stop—no more Charly Boy,” Alabi declared to cheers from residents.
The LCDA boss emphasized that the decision was influenced by Olamide’s impact on Nigeria’s music industry, his contribution to nurturing young talents like Fireboy DML, Asake, and Adekunle Gold, and his consistent promotion of Yoruba culture through music.
Other streets and landmarks were also renamed, including:
Ilaje Road to Sunny Ade Road
Ifeanyi Street to 9ice Street
Community Road, Akoka to Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road
Bariga Road to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road
Ayodele Street to Tony Tetuila Street

Reacting to the renaming, veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account with a playful yet philosophical response.
“Na dem sabi! Life no be competition. I did my thing for decades, now it’s Olamide’s time. Congrats to the young man. As long as dem no remove my legacy from the hearts of the people, I dey kampe,” he wrote.
In a follow-up post, Charly Boy praised Olamide for staying true to his roots:
“I respect Olamide for lifting many young artists and representing the streets. Bariga is proud of him. Make Baddo carry this new honour with humility. One love!”
His response has sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians commending Charly Boy for his maturity and sportsmanship, while others debated whether the renaming was necessary.
As of press time, Olamide has not made an official statement on the honour. However, his fans have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, describing the renaming as a “befitting tribute” for an artist who has consistently put Bariga and Nigerian street culture on the global map.

Music analysts say the honour is long overdue, considering Olamide’s over a decade-long dominance in the Nigerian music scene. The rapper has won numerous awards, released chart-topping albums, and created one of the most successful independent music labels in Africa—YBNL Nation.
More importantly, he is celebrated for giving young artists a platform to shine, a feat that has earned him widespread respect among fans and industry players.
While many residents of Bariga welcomed the decision, some questioned why a landmark named after a living legend like Charly Boy should be changed. Social media debates have continued, with fans of both entertainers urging mutual respect.
For Bariga LCDA, however, the renaming marks a symbolic recognition of today’s cultural icons, ensuring that future generations remember those shaping Nigeria’s creative industry.
