The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released a 17-man provisional roster for the senior men’s national team, D’Tigers, ahead of the 2025 Men’s FIBA AfroBasket Championship, scheduled to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.
Topping the list is Houston Rockets’ new signing Josh Okogie, who returns to the national team setup after a brief absence.
The former Phoenix Suns guard previously represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup in China and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Also included is Caleb Agada, fresh off his triumph with Al Ahli Tripoli at the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL). The dynamic guard brings both continental experience and a high work rate to the team.
Veterans Ike Nwamu, Mike Nuga, and Talib Zanna are back in the fold, providing leadership and depth. Nigeria-based talents Peter Olisemeka and Devine Eke, who featured at the 2025 BAL for Rivers Hoopers and Senegal’s ASCVD respectively, have also earned call-ups.
Completing the preliminary squad are:
Kareem Joseph, Wesley Iwundu, Ugochukwu Simon, Stanley Okoye, Folabomi Fayemi, Emmanuel Omogbo, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu and Jekiri Tonye.

Notably missing from the list is seasoned forward Chimezie Metu, who is currently sidelined with a long-term injury.
This will be D’Tigers’ first major outing since August 2023, when they participated in the FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Lagos but failed to secure a spot at the Paris 2024 Games.
Preparations will begin in earnest next week, with a training camp scheduled ahead of the final squad selection. The list will be trimmed to 12 players before the team departs for Angola.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar. The team will open their campaign against Madagascar on August 13, followed by a clash with Tunisia on August 15, and a final group stage match against Cameroon on August 17.

The knockout phase begins on August 18, with the final set to be played on August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda.
