The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71. The revered traditional ruler died on Friday in Abuja following a prolonged illness that he had battled for several years.

The sad news of his passing was officially confirmed by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal. The announcement has sent waves of grief throughout the state and beyond, as people mourn the loss of a respected monarch and symbol of unity.



In a statement released shortly after the news broke, Governor Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the death of the emir, describing him as a trusted elder statesman and a guiding light in the affairs of the state. He noted that the late monarch consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering peace, harmony, and development across Zamfara during his reign.



“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father and royal leader, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the governor stated.

“He was more than a traditional ruler to me; he was a confidant and father whose wisdom and counsel greatly impacted my leadership and that of others in the state. May Almighty Allah (SWT) pardon his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.”



Dr. Ibrahim Bello ascended the throne as the 16th Emir of Gusau in March 2015, following the death of his father. Over the past decade, he served with distinction, playing a pivotal role in promoting the cultural heritage and social cohesion of Zamfara State. His reign was marked by a deep sense of duty, dignity, and service to his people.



The late Emir’s legacy includes his relentless pursuit of peace, inter-communal understanding, and grassroots development, making him a beloved figure across various communities. His passing marks the end of an era in Gusau’s traditional leadership, and he will be remembered as a beacon of integrity, wisdom, and leadership.
