Just two weeks after his appointment as Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami has unveiled a bold vision for restructuring the club, promising a new era of accountability, professionalism, and ambition on and off the pitch.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Salami expressed deep appreciation for the passion that surrounds the historic Ibadan-based club and emphasized his commitment to restoring its glory.

“I always knew Shooting Stars was an institution, but I never realized how deeply it connects with the lives of so many people—not just in Nigeria, but across the diaspora,” Salami said. “Football is life here, and the emotional investment is overwhelming. I can assure our fans that better days lie ahead.”

A New Era Begins

With the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season fast approaching, the new 3SC boss confirmed that restructuring is already underway. In a major move, the club has disengaged the former coaching crew and general manager, and appointed a new Chief Operating Officer, signaling a fresh administrative direction.

“This is home for me. We are maintaining the legacy of the club, but it’s also time to deliver results. We’re assembling a new technical team, and talks are ongoing to add a Sporting Director. This is a full-time commitment, and we are working with urgency,” he stated.

The club plans to participate in two pre-season tournaments as part of preparations for the new campaign, which kicks off on August 22, 2025.

Coach Announcement Imminent

On the crucial issue of who will lead the team from the sidelines, Salami confirmed that several high-profile coaches have shown interest, and a final decision is expected within 48 hours.

“There’s strong enthusiasm to be part of this club—many see it as an honour. We’re carefully evaluating each candidate to ensure alignment with our values and vision. We expect to announce our new head coach very soon.”

Key Strategic Shifts

Salami outlined major changes in the club’s media and fan engagement strategy, with a total overhaul of the media department already executed.

“Football isn’t just about what happens on the pitch. It involves strategic and political dimensions. We’re prioritising fan engagement, player welfare, and strong public communication. We want to make our fans, the Governor, and the people of Oyo State proud,” he said.

Productive Talks with NPFL Leadership

As part of his administrative outreach, Salami has already held talks with NPFL Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, describing the engagement as constructive and encouraging.

“Effective leadership requires communication with league stakeholders. I shared the Oyo State Government’s vision for 3SC, and Hon. Elegbeleye responded with enthusiasm and insight. He’s a man I hold in high regard.”

Legacy, Ambition, and the Name ‘Lekan Salami’

Reflecting on the personal significance of leading a club so deeply tied to his family’s history, Salami spoke emotionally about his late father, after whom the club’s stadium is named.

“My father was a passionate supporter of 3SC. The government honoured him by naming the stadium after him, and now I have the opportunity to build on that legacy and make my own mark.”

He also revealed plans to commercialize the club’s growing brand through merchandising and replica jerseys, alongside the club’s two core goals: to win the NPFL title and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“This badge is more than football—it’s a movement. And with God on our side, we will succeed.” He concluded.
