Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has officially signed into law the bill establishing the Hisbah Board as a statutory body, aimed at reinforcing moral discipline, promoting social justice, and enhancing community welfare across the state.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday during the weekly State Executive Council meeting, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse, the state capital.

The brief but symbolic event marked the formal conclusion of a legislative and administrative process that had been underway for over eight months.

Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi described the occasion as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to institutionalize moral and social reforms.

“Today, we have signed into law the Hisbah Bill, which establishes the Hisbah Board as an official institution in Jigawa State,” he stated. “This is a process that began seven to eight months ago, and today, by the grace of Allah, we have concluded it.”

The newly enacted law, passed days earlier by the Jigawa State House of Assembly during a plenary session, provides legal backing to the operations of the Hisbah Board and empowers it to function more effectively across all parts of the state.

Highlighting the importance of the law, Governor Namadi emphasized that the establishment of the Board as a statutory institution reflects his administration’s commitment to promoting moral order, social harmony, and justice.

“With this legal framework now in place, the Hisbah Board is fully empowered to discharge its responsibilities in line with its mandate,” he declared.

He outlined the core responsibilities of the Board, which include promoting moral guidance, ensuring social justice, and fostering community well-being.

“The board’s mandate is broad but vital—it serves as a moral compass and guardian of societal ethics. With this law, it can now operate with greater authority and efficiency,” the governor explained.

Governor Namadi urged Hisbah officials and personnel to approach their duties with integrity, fairness, and the fear of God. He cautioned that their conduct would play a crucial role in determining the effectiveness and credibility of the Board in the eyes of the public.

“As the Hisbah Board begins its official duties, it is essential for its personnel to uphold the highest standards of moral conduct and impartiality,” he advised.

He also extended his appreciation to members of the Hisbah Board Establishment Committee for their diligence, sacrifice, and dedication throughout the legislative process.

“Their commitment has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life,” the governor remarked. “Their tireless efforts have laid a strong foundation for a more morally responsible and socially conscious society.”

Namadi further expressed optimism that the formal establishment of the Board would usher in a new era of moral reform and social stability in Jigawa State.

“We are confident that the Board’s activities will have a far-reaching positive impact on our communities. Its role in shaping the social fabric of our state cannot be overstated,” he said.

The governor concluded by reiterating that the decision to create the Hisbah Board as a statutory body reflects the state government’s broader vision of fostering ethical behavior, community responsibility, and religious values as cornerstones of public life in Jigawa State.
