Plateau State was thrown into shock and outrage following a brutal mob assault on a woman in Jos, who was falsely accused of stealing a man’s manhood.
The disturbing incident occurred on Monday, July 21, when a man, allegedly intoxicated, raised an alarm, claiming that the woman had touched him and that his manhood had instantly vanished.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the man’s accusation quickly attracted a large crowd. Without verifying the claim, the mob pounced on the woman, mercilessly beating her with sticks, planks, and any objects within reach. In the frenzied attack, she sustained multiple injuries and bruises, leaving her weak and fragile.
The situation nearly escalated to a fatal level as some members of the mob attempted to set her ablaze. Fortunately, a few residents who knew the woman intervened just in time, insisting that the man’s body be properly examined to verify his allegation. Upon inspection, it was confirmed that his manhood was perfectly intact, exposing his claim as completely false.
Following the intervention, the woman was rescued and taken to the hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention. Mohammed Sallahuddeen Junior, a concerned resident, alongside three women — Amina Gamaliel Benedicta, Ayodele Bigwan, and Nanchin Arkibus Damap — visited the victim in the hospital to offer support.
In a statement shared via social media, Sallahuddeen expressed deep concern over the assault and confirmed that the victim’s family is preparing to take legal action.
“Bruised, beaten, weak, and fragile, we were able to locate the lady yesterday and ensured she received hospital treatment. The family has resolved to seek justice and will do everything possible to ensure the matter is properly investigated and that the truth prevails. Many thanks to Amina Gamaliel Benedicta, Ayodele Bigwan, and Nanchin Arkibus Damap for joining me,” he wrote.
The family’s pursuit of justice seeks not only redress for the victim but also to set a precedent against reckless mob violence fueled by unfounded accusations.
