Defending champion Daniel Adeleye began his title defence at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) National Tennis Championship on a strong note, defeating Ajang Sylvanus in a hard-fought three-set contest on Tuesday in Abuja.

Adeleye prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to secure a second-round ticket, demonstrating the resilience that saw him clinch the men’s singles crown last year.

In another notable fixture, rising star Seun Ogunsakin continued his impressive form with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kwanje Elisha, underlining his credentials as one to watch in this year’s tournament.

Other Results: Ehigiemusoe, Suleiman, and Michael Progress

Elsewhere, Endurance Ehigiemusoe advanced to the third round after outlasting Morakinyo Akinwale in a tightly contested match, eventually winning 7-6, 6-1.

Ibrahim Suleiman also booked his place in the third round, seeing off Ezekiel Azi with a straight-sets 6-2, 7-5 victory, while Emmanuel Michael breezed past Akeem Azeez 6-2, 6-0 to continue his fine form.

Former champion Thomas Out maintained his unbeaten run in this year’s edition, edging Akagha Paul 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a thrilling second-round duel.

Doubles Event Underway

Meanwhile, action in the men’s and women’s doubles categories which kicked off on Tuesday continued today, with top seeds and new pairings vying for honours in what promises to be an exciting draw.

The tournament, which serves as one of the most prestigious national competitions in Nigerian tennis, continues throughout the week at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja the nation’s capital.
