2025 FIBA Afrobasket: D’Tigress Announce Final Roster for Championship

Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, has officially unveiled its final 12-woman roster for the 29th edition of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship, as the team prepares to defend its continental title in style.

The squad led by head coach Rena Wakama features a blend of experienced veterans and emerging talents:

Promise Amukamara, Ezinne Kalu, Elizabeth Balogun, Amy Okonkwo, Nicole Enabosi, Pallas Kunayi-Akpanah, Victoria Macaulay, Vera Ojenuwa, Blessing Ejiofor, Ifunaya Okoro, Sarah Ogoke and Murjanatu Musa.

Nigeria Aiming for Fifth Straight Title

The D’Tigress head into the tournament as defending champions, having clinched the title in Kigali, Rwanda in 2023 with a thrilling 84–74 win over Senegal in the final. The victory marked their fourth consecutive Afrobasket title and extended their dominance in African women’s basketball.

Nigeria also defeated Senegal in the 2017 and 2019 finals, and overcame Mali in 2021, solidifying their status as the team to beat on the continent. They now aim to win a record-extending fifth consecutive title.

Tournament Overview

The 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship will feature 12 of Africa’s top basketball nations, competing for both the continental crown and qualification points towards future international tournaments, including the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

Group stage matchups, tournament venue details, and Nigeria’s opening fixture will be announced by FIBA Africa in the coming days.

Eyes on Global Stage

Led by a strong core of seasoned players like Ezinne Kalu, Sarah Ogoke, and Amy Okonkwo, Nigeria is not only eyeing continental glory but also building toward greater ambitions on the global stage, including a return to the FIBA Women’s World Cup in 2026 and the 2028 summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States.

With preparations in full swing and team chemistry strengthening, all eyes will be on D’Tigress as they look to write another golden chapter in Nigerian basketball history.
