In a landmark moment for women’s Club football in Oyo State Nigeria, Pacesetter Queens Football Club—Oyo State’s premier female team, was officially unveiled on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025 at a colourful press conference held in Ibadan the state capital.

The event marked the club’s formal introduction to the public, highlighted by the reveal of a new logo, the presentation of its technical and administrative team, and a declaration of a bold vision to redefine women’s football in Nigeria.

Held at the office of the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, the unveiling drew notable dignitaries, football stakeholders, former internationals, and media partners, all unified in their support for advancing sports and gender equity in the state.

Strong Government Support

The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke who presided over the unveiling in her remarks expressed deep appreciation to the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whose unwavering commitment to female empowerment and sports development laid the foundation for the club’s launch.

“His Excellency’s vision, financial backing, and goodwill have been instrumental in making today possible,” Adegoke stated. “Pacesetter Queens is more than a football club—it’s a symbol of equal opportunity and progress in Oyo State.”

Symbolism and Structure

The newly unveiled club logo—bold, modern, and rich in symbolism—represents strength, unity, and aspiration. It serves as a visual statement of intent, reflecting the club’s ambition to compete at the highest levels both nationally and internationally.

Equally impressive is the club’s leadership structure, featuring an experienced technical bench committed to player development and professional excellence.

Head Coach: Akinwunmi Obajimi, First Assistant Coach: Damilola Olaitan Badmus, a former professional player and CAF C License holder, Second Assistant Coach: Zaccheaus Aderoju, Physical Trainer: Lateef Lukman, Goalkeeper Trainer: Foluso Ajayi, a FIFA-badged coach, Welfare Officer: Miss Grace Towobola, certified with CAF and UEFA B licenses.

Next Steps: Trials and Infrastructure

The Commissioner, Hon. Adegoke outlined the next phase in the club’s roadmap: a one-month open trial for prospective players, with a club-branded bus to be provided post-trials for logistics and team movement.

Training sessions will take place at Adamasingba Stadium (main bowl and astroturf) and Olubadan Stadium, with an official flag-off ceremony by Governor Makinde expected in the coming weeks.

“I urge every player to wear the Pacesetter jersey with pride. You represent not just a team, but the spirit and ambition of Oyo State,” Adegoke told attendees.
