The General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Véron Mosengo-Omba, has given a strong vote of confidence to the ongoing preparations for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Mosengo-Omba was in Kenya on Monday, where he inspected key facilities in Nairobi ahead of the tournament’s kick-off on August 2, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His tour will also take him to Tanzania, as he continues to assess the readiness of host nations.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting Kasarani Stadium, which has undergone significant renovation with investment from the Kenyan government, the CAF General Secretary praised the efforts of the host nations:

“There is so much work and progress that has been made by the three countries — Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda — over the last few months, working closely with the CAF team on the ground,” Mosengo-Omba said.

“I must commend the work of the three governments and the leadership of their football federations. We no longer have questions about readiness. Now, we are just focusing on minor details to ensure everything is in place by August 2.”

In addition to Kasarani, Mosengo-Omba also visited Nyayo Stadium and several designated training grounds in Nairobi. He was accompanied by key officials, including:

Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Harold Ndege, General Secretary of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Evans Achoki, Secretary of Administration in Kenya’s Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports

Kenya’s Role in CHAN 2024

As part of its hosting duties, Kenya will stage all Group A matches at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, with the final match and closing ceremony slated for August 30, 2025, at the revamped Kasarani Stadium.

Mosengo-Omba’s visit marks a significant milestone as CHAN 2024 approaches, reinforcing CAF’s confidence in East Africa’s ability to deliver a world-class tournament that will showcase the best of African domestic talent.
