Massimiliano Allegri has vowed to restore AC Milan to its former heights as he embarks on a second stint as manager of the fallen Italian giants.

The 57-year-old tactician was reappointed following the sacking of Sergio Conceicao, whose five-month tenure ended in disappointment after Milan recorded their worst league finish in a decade.

Speaking to reporters in Singapore, where the Rossoneri are set to face Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, Allegri outlined his immediate target:

“The goal for this season is to return to the Champions League. A club like AC Milan has to play in Europe — it’s non-negotiable,” he said.

Milan concluded the 2024–25 campaign in eighth place, missing out on European qualification and falling short in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna. The dismal season prompted swift action from the club hierarchy, who turned to the familiar and proven leadership of Allegri.

A Return to Familiar Territory

Allegri first managed Milan from 2010 to 2014, guiding them to the Scudetto in his debut season — the club’s first Serie A title since 2004. He later enjoyed an illustrious spell at Juventus, winning five consecutive Serie A titles and solidifying his reputation as one of Italy’s most successful coaches.

“It’s been over a decade since I first took charge of Milan. A lot has changed — in the club, in the league, in the world of football. But the goal remains the same: bring Milan back to where it belongs — in the Champions League,” Allegri stressed.

Modric Signing Signals Ambition

To help achieve that aim, Milan have secured the services of Luka Modric, the legendary Croatian playmaker, who arrives from Real Madrid at the age of 39. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is expected to play a central role under Allegri, bringing experience, vision, and leadership to a young and inconsistent Milan squad.

“Modric is a proven champion who needs no introduction. He’s a role model, not just in terms of discipline, but also technically,” Allegri said. “We are counting on his experience to inspire this team.”

Modric’s signing is widely viewed as a statement of intent from the Milan board — a clear signal that the club is serious about reclaiming its place among Europe’s elite. With seven Champions League titles to its name, Milan remains one of the continent’s most storied clubs — but recent years have seen that prestige wane.

Allegri’s return and Modric’s arrival offer Milan fans renewed hope as the club looks to begin a new chapter — one built on leadership, legacy, and a return to European football’s grandest stage.
