The University of the Niger (UniNiger), Iyienu, Ogidi in Anambra State, has come under intense public criticism following the circulation of a disturbing video that captured security personnel violently assaulting and forcefully evicting a female student from the school premises.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has provoked outrage and widespread condemnation from activists, students, and concerned Nigerians.
The troubling footage, shared by a user identified as Chuks on X, seen by IREPORT247NEWS, showed the young female student being physically manhandled, flogged, and dragged out of the school hostel by multiple security officers.
Watch video:
In the video, the visibly distressed student could be seen struggling desperately as the officers shoved, pushed, and threw her to the ground, treating her in a degrading and humiliating manner.
Providing further context, Chuks, who described himself as a human rights advocate, explained that the student’s ordeal followed a decision by the university’s management to suspend her after her private nude images were leaked online.
The nudes were allegedly released by her ex-boyfriend, a fellow student, who had earlier attempted to blackmail her. According to reports, the victim had refused to give in to his blackmail demands, prompting him to maliciously circulate her intimate photos among his friends, which then spread across the campus.
Sources familiar with the incident stated that the assault and eviction of the student occurred on July 18, 2025. The victim was not only subjected to emotional trauma from the blackmail but was also physically and publicly humiliated by the institution’s security operatives — a development that has attracted widespread criticism and demands for justice.
The X user said: “This happened at the University of the Niger, Iyienu, Ogidi, Anambra State on July 18. It was said that she was being blackmailed by her fellow male student who had her nudes.
“After draining her financially and emotionally, the alleged male student still leaked the photos to his friends and eventually to the whole school.
“The girl in the video, named Alaka, went to the school to report the issue but word spread that she was suspended instead and no punishment was given to the male student involved.
“She was given a one-year suspension. Heartbroken and traumatised, the girl pleaded with the school to allow her leave the next day (due to some unknown reasons).
“Instead of compassion, she was met with cruelty. Three security officers dragged her out like a criminal, beating her, throwing her to the ground, and forcing her to leave immediately. No mercy. No humanity”
Many Nigerians have since condemned the university’s handling of the matter, accusing the institution of victim-blaming and failing to protect the student from her blackmailer and subsequent public disgrace.
Critics argue that instead of supporting the victim and punishing the perpetrator responsible for the leak and blackmail, the university chose to victimize her further by subjecting her to inhumane treatment and public shame.
The incident has reignited discussions around student rights, campus security protocols, and the need for educational institutions to establish clear policies that protect victims of blackmail, exploitation, and sexual harassment rather than compounding their trauma through punitive actions.
