During a press briefing held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in Akure, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, provided a detailed account of the police investigation that led to the breakthrough in the case.
CP Lawal explained that the investigation was triggered by a petition dated June 24, 2025. The petition was filed by the law firm G.O. Omoedu & Co. on behalf of Mr Emmanuel Peter, a resident of Shagari Village in Akure.
The petition was a formal complaint regarding the mysterious disappearance of the two students, who were last seen on June 20, 2025.
Responding to the petition, detectives from the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intensive and methodical investigation.
Through forensic tracking, the detectives traced the trail to the popular Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos. There, they recovered an iPhone 14 Pro Max belonging to one of the victims from a suspect named Abdul Mohammed Mubarak, aged 38.
Upon interrogation, Mubarak confessed that he had purchased the phone from another suspect, Ojo Michael. Acting on this lead, the police arrested Ojo Michael in Aramoko-Ekiti. During the arrest operation, the police also recovered a Lexus RX 350 SUV, which had belonged to the deceased students.
When interrogated, Ojo Michael admitted his direct involvement in the abduction, armed robbery, and grisly murder of the victims.
He further revealed that the entire operation was orchestrated by the landlord, Oladele Femi, who had rented accommodation to one of the victims, Abah John Friday.
