The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has officially announced the dissolution of all teams of Area Education Officers and School Support Officers operating across the 20 local government areas of the state.
This sweeping decision also affects several other categories of personnel within the education sector.
According to SUBEB Chairman, Sama’ila Duguri, those impacted by the directive include Arabic and Christian visiting teachers, Early Child Care Development Education (ECCDE) supervisors, education supervisors, and library supervisors—all serving under the 20 Local Education Authorities (LEAs). They have all been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
Duguri explained that this move forms part of a broader strategy to reform and revitalize the monitoring and supervisory framework within the local education structures across Bauchi State.
The objective, he noted, is to strengthen the overall effectiveness and efficiency of educational oversight at the grassroots level.
In a press statement released on Friday by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Mohammed Jungudo, SUBEB directed the relevant departments within both SUBEB and the various LEAs to ensure a seamless transition process.
This includes safeguarding all official records, as well as maintaining continuity of ongoing educational programs and initiatives.
Moving forward, Duguri stated that only school support officers duly appointed by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), SUBEB, and the LEAs would be authorised and recognised to perform supervisory functions across the state’s educational institutions.
He further disclosed that fresh appointments would be announced in due course by the education secretaries of the respective LEAs.
These appointments will be guided by updated selection criteria designed to standardise recruitment and enhance the effectiveness of the school support system.
Additionally, Duguri noted that comprehensive new guidelines would soon be provided to all LEAs. These guidelines are intended to improve the quality, consistency, and impact of support provided to schools throughout the state.
Consequently, the SUBEB chairman instructed all officers affected by the dissolution to report immediately to their respective Local Government Education Authority headquarters for assessment and documentation processes as part of the ongoing reforms.
