The Super Falcons of Nigeria have finally received their official training kits from global sportswear giant Nike, following a frustrating week-long delay caused by customs clearance issues in Morocco.
Since the start of the tournament, the nine-time African champions had been training in outdated matchday jerseys—an unusual and embarrassing situation that drew sharp criticism from fans, media, and former players across Nigeria and beyond.

NFF Explains the Delay
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which came under pressure to address the issue, attributed the hold-up to logistical bottlenecks at Moroccan customs.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau spoke to reporters earlier this week in Casablanca, clarifying that the delay was “completely beyond the federation’s control.”
“We worked with the relevant authorities and the tournament organisers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. It’s unfortunate, but I’m glad the kits have now reached the team ahead of a very important match,” Gusau said.
Morale Boost for the Falcons
With the fresh training gear now in hand, team officials have confirmed that the players will wear the new kits during Friday’s pre-match warm-up session at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Sources within the team camp say morale has improved significantly, with players visibly excited and relieved to finally train and warm up in the proper gear ahead of one of the biggest matches of their campaign.
The development comes at a crucial time for the Super Falcons, who are aiming to reclaim their continental crown after a shock semifinal exit to Morocco in the previous edition.
High-Stakes Quarterfinal Showdown
Friday’s quarterfinal clash against Zambia is expected to be fiercely contested. The Copper Queens—led by Swiss coach Nora Häuptle—have impressed so far in the tournament and are confident of pulling off an upset. They secured a hard-fought 1–0 win over DR Congo to finish second in their group and are chasing their first-ever WAFCON title.
Meanwhile, Nigeria, the most successful team in the competition’s history, are determined to reassert their dominance and continue their march toward a record-extending 10th WAFCON title tagged ‘Mission X’.
The Super Falcons will be counting on star players like Asisat Oshoala, Toni Payne, and Rasheedat Ajibade to rise to the occasion, while Zambia will look to the creativity of the reigning African Women’s footballer of the year Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji to trouble the Nigerian defence.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM local time (GMT+1), 5:00 PM (WAT) today.
