Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £65 million, which could rise to £71 million with add-ons.
The Cameroon international is now expected to undergo a medical ahead of joining United’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, which departs on Tuesday.
If all goes as planned, the 25-year-old will become the club’s third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon.

United initially submitted a £55m bid in early June, which was rejected. A second offer of £62.5m later in the month was also turned down. But Brentford have now accepted the latest proposal—an initial £65m, with an additional performance-related bonuses up to £6m—making Mbeumo the most expensive sale in the club’s history.
Mbeumo Reaches New Heights
Mbeumo enjoyed his best Premier League season yet in 2024–25, registering career-high figures across key attacking metrics: goals, assists, chances created, and touches in the opposition box.
With a shot conversion rate of 23.53%, only Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak proved more clinical in front of goal. His off-the-ball contributions were also significant—he recovered possession 32 times in the opposition third, ranking third among all Premier League players.

Perhaps his most standout asset, however, is his ball-carrying ability. Mbeumo led the league last season in progressive carries resulting in goals, with nine runs of over five metres ending in the back of the net—more than any other player in the division.
A Key Addition for Amorim’s System
While his rise at Brentford has been impressive, Mbeumo will now face a different kind of pressure at Manchester United, where expectations are far greater.
“Mbeumo has experience, he’s a strong finisher, and his versatility makes him valuable—capable of playing both as a central striker and off the right wing, cutting in on his left foot,” said a source close to the club. “But now the challenge is consistency. He’s had one very good season—United will want to see that level week in, week out.” The source noted.
With young wingers like Alejandro Garnacho and Antony struggling for consistency, United’s recruitment strategy this summer has leaned toward more experienced and reliable attacking options. Mbeumo, with five years of Premier League experience, fits that mould.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical setup relies heavily on disciplined, high-energy players capable of executing a pressing game, particularly in his preferred back-three formation. Mbeumo’s tireless work rate and defensive contributions align well with that philosophy.
Amorim wants attackers who can press, track back, and remain sharp in transition—and Mbeumo ticks all those boxes, he’s a player the manager feels he can trust.
