President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday arrived in Kano State to personally commiserate with the family of the late billionaire businessman and revered philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away recently at the age of 94.

The President’s aircraft landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Friday afternoon. Upon his arrival, Tinubu was warmly received by prominent political figures across party lines, including the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf; the Deputy Senate President, Barau Ibrahim Jubrin; and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the former APC gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections. Other key chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were also on hand to welcome the President.

Ahead of the visit, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier disclosed in a statement that President Tinubu was scheduled to visit Kano on Friday, July 18, 2025, to extend his heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family over the passing of the patriarch.

During the condolence visit to the Dantata family residence at Koki House in Kano, President Tinubu paid glowing tributes to the late Aminu Dantata, whom he described as a man of exceptional generosity and compassion.

Tinubu recalled that the deceased was renowned for his philanthropy, particularly his habit of feeding the hungry in local markets — an enduring legacy that endeared him to many across the country.

Reflecting on his personal connection with the late businessman, President Tinubu recounted his earlier visit to Kano during his election campaigns, where he met with Alhaji Dantata to seek his prayers and blessings.

“I came here during the campaigns and I sought his prayers, and indeed, he gave them to me,” Tinubu remarked. “It is a personal obligation for me to return to Kano to offer my condolences to his family and to the entire people of Kano for this monumental loss.”

Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a respected nonagenarian and one of Nigeria’s foremost industrialists, died in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Following Islamic rites, his remains were interred on July 1, 2025, beside his late wife’s grave at the historic Al-Baqi Cemetery in Madina, Saudi Arabia — a city of deep spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide.

President Tinubu’s visit underscores the high regard in which the late Dantata was held, not only in Kano but across Nigeria’s business and philanthropic communities.
