The home and headquarters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro were raided by federal police on Friday, according to multiple reports. The police statement, issued on the same day, said they had issued search warrants ordered by Brazil‘s Supreme Court, without directly naming Bolsonaro.

He is currently on trial before the Supreme Court for allegedly plotting a coup to prevent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office in January 2023. As part of the restrictions, Bolsonaro has been ordered to wear an ankle bracelet, stop using social media, and cease communications with his son Eduardo.

Interestingly, US President Donald Trump has threatened Brazil with 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods if Bolsonaro is not granted legal reprieve. This development comes amid Bolsonaro’s trial, sparking concerns about international diplomatic relations.
