A tragic incident has occurred in Lagos State, where a young graduate of Benue State University, Makurdi, Wilfred Amondo, reportedly slumped and died while on duty as a security guard in the Lekki area.

Reports indicate that Amondo had just returned to work shortly after watching the football match between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, July 13, 2025. During the game, he was active on social media, particularly on Facebook, where he posted:
“Chelsea de beat PSG, na Man Utd fans come de cry. I no just understand.”
He further encouraged his followers, saying:
“Bet Chelsea FC to win now, no come say I no tell u.”
However, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. While the security company claimed that Wilfred slumped and died while on duty, some associates and concerned individuals have disputed this narrative.
One such individual, Terlumum Dzungwe, a former President of CTS Worldwide and a concerned citizen of Benue State, addressed the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in a public post, raising serious doubts about the company’s explanation.
Dzungwe revealed that the CCTV footage from the premises does not convincingly support the company’s claim that Wilfred simply collapsed and died while working. Even more troubling, according to him, were the injuries and physical marks discovered on Wilfred’s body when his remains arrived in his hometown on Tuesday, July 15. These signs, he said, suggest a possibility of violence rather than a natural or spontaneous collapse.
In his impassioned appeal, Terlumum wrote:
“Hon. Speaker, BSHOAM, Aondona Dajoh,
I write to you today as a concerned citizen of Benue State and a former President of CTS Worldwide, with a broken heart, filled with tears and helplessness, to inform you about the mysterious demise of Wilfred A Amondo , a son of Benue who hailed from Mbagen, Buruku Local Government Area. He was a graduate of the Department of English, Benue State University, Makurdi.
“With the help of a friend, he traveled to Lagos about two months ago to work as a security personnel. Sadly, on the 14th of July, 2025, we received the devastating news of his untimely death. According to the company, he slumped and died while on duty.
“However, upon reviewing the CCTV footage of the incident, the situation became more complicated, as the footage does not clearly support the company’s claim.
“Moreover, when his body arrived home yesterday, we observed injuries and physical signs that suggest a different and possibly violent cause of death.
“We are deeply dissatisfied with the explanation given for his demise. Sadly, Wilfred was an orphan and had no one to pursue this matter on his behalf. Even the transportation of his corpse home was made possible through the efforts of a friend and contributions from the company.
“We demand justice for this innocent young man.
“You have always been a voice for the voiceless, and I earnestly plead that you take swift action by initiating an investigation into this matter. I am available to provide you with more details, sir.
The call for justice continues to gain momentum, as many within the Benue community and beyond await an official investigation to uncover the truth behind the mysterious and untimely death of Wilfred Amondo.
