A commercial motorcyclist and tailor, Lekan Bakare, aged 29, has been arrested by the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman in the Alusekere area of Ede, Osun State.

The State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, disclosed this while parading Bakare alongside two other criminal suspects before newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the victim’s account, Bakare deceived her into visiting his residence under the pretense of assisting her in searching for her missing ward. However, on her arrival, he allegedly pulled out a locally made pistol and a knife to threaten her before forcefully raping her.

The victim’s swift report to security authorities prompted Amotekun operatives to launch an immediate manhunt, leading to Bakare’s arrest. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

In a related development, the Amotekun Corps also apprehended two other suspects for alleged involvement in separate incidents of burglary and theft of valuables worth millions of naira. These arrests were made following a series of intelligence-led operations across different locations in the state.

One of the suspects, Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old bricklayer, was accused of breaking into an uncompleted residential building in a new site area of Osogbo.

He allegedly stole electrical tools and wiring materials valued at approximately N2.5 million. Commander Omoyele revealed that Adekunle exploited his familiarity with the construction site to gain unauthorized access after work hours.

Through discreet surveillance, operatives tracked and arrested him at his residence, where the stolen items were recovered.

In a similar operation, Amotekun arrested 23-year-old Lawal Musa, a tailor and native of Kaduna residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo. Musa was allegedly involved in the theft of household items including a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two standing fans, all valued at over N800,000.

During interrogation, Musa confessed to the crime and disclosed that he sold the stolen items to a buyer identified as “Rilwan,” who is also based in the Sabo area. Musa admitted selling the television for N27,000 and the two standing fans for N30,000, significantly below their market value.

Commander Omoyele confirmed that all suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. He reiterated the Corps’ unwavering resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.

“These arrests are a strong testament to our zero-tolerance stance on crime in Osun State,” Omoyele stated. He called on residents to support the Corps by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing, “Together, we can make Osun a safe haven for all.”
