Makinde Celebrates Alaafin of Oyo at 50

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has warmly congratulated the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, on the occasion of his 50th birthday, describing the milestone as both significant and symbolic, particularly for the ancient Oyo Kingdom and the entire state.


In a goodwill message issued in honour of the royal father, Governor Makinde paid glowing tribute to the monarch, highlighting the eventful journey of his life so far, which has been marked by grace, wisdom, and a deep sense of responsibility.

He noted that the monarch’s recent ascension to the exalted throne of the Alaafin of Oyo stands as the crowning glory of his personal achievements and service to his people.



The governor remarked that Oba Owoade’s 50th birthday is not just a personal celebration but a historic moment for the people of Oyo, as they reflect on the continued significance of the revered throne of their forebears.

He pointed out that the Alaafin’s enthronement has come at a time when traditional institutions play a critical role in cultural preservation, peace-building, and community development.


Governor Makinde expressed confidence that the coming decades will bring even more grace, wisdom, and prosperity to Oba Owoade’s reign.

He stated that with the monarch’s youthful energy combined with a sense of history and cultural heritage, the Oyo Kingdom is poised to experience a renaissance in cultural pride, social harmony, and economic growth.
