The Nigeria National League (NNL) has imposed heavy sanctions on Wikki Tourists Football Club, ordering the club to pay a fine of ₦3.75 million following violent and disorderly incidents during their 2024/2025 Super 8 playoff match against Warri Wolves.
The match, held on July 12, 2025, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, was intended to highlight the best of Nigerian lower-tier football. However, it instead turned into a troubling spectacle that cast a shadow over the league.
A strongly worded letter, jointly addressed to the Bauchi State Football Association and Wikki Tourists FC, and signed by NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana, condemned the behavior of the club’s supporters and officials.
The actions were described as “unruly” and “below standard,” especially considering the magnitude of the occasion.
Disorder and Chaos
According to the NNL’s detailed report, trouble began during the match when Wikki Tourists fans began throwing objects at Assistant Referee II. Some projectiles landed on the pitch, while others were aimed directly at match officials, disrupting the game and creating a hostile environment for players, staff, and spectators.

The situation deteriorated further after the final whistle, as a group of angry Wikki Tourists supporters invaded the pitch, attempting to confront match and league officials.
The resulting chaos led to panic in the stadium, as security officials struggled to regain control. Even dignitaries and invited guests were reportedly left unsettled by the disorder.
Breakdown of Sanctions
In response, the NNL invoked Articles 16.1.1 and 27.1 of its regulations — provisions that address crowd control, team responsibility, and unsporting conduct. The sanctions were itemized as follows:
₦1,000,000 for general misconduct by supporters and club officials. ₦2,000,000 for acts of intimidation, harassment, object throwing, and pitch invasion. ₦750,000 for destruction of stadium property, including damage to pitch panels and advertising boards.
In total, Wikki Tourists FC must pay ₦3.75 million and has been given a 24-hour deadline to either comply or submit a formal appeal. Failure to respond within the stipulated time may lead to additional disciplinary measures.
League Reaction and Public Backlash
In his official statement, Danlami Alanana expressed deep disappointment at the events in Asaba, emphasizing that such behavior undermines the league’s efforts to promote professionalism and develop Nigerian football.
“The actions of your supporters really jeopardized the beauty and glamour of a reputable final of the competition of that magnitude,” Alanana stated.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with analysts, former players, and fans condemning the breakdown in discipline. Many are calling for stricter enforcement of league rules, improved security measures, and increased investment in fan education to safeguard the integrity of the game.
What Next for Wikki Tourists?
As the dust settles, attention now turns to Wikki Tourists’ response. Whether the club chooses to accept the punishment or challenge it through appeal remains to be seen.
What is certain, however, is that the NNL is sending a clear message: disorderly conduct will not be tolerated, and clubs will be held accountable for the behavior of their supporters and officials — especially on the big stage.
