The NIS has set a clear deadline for the cessation of manual application submissions. Starting from August 1, 2025, all Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Alien Card (CERPAC) applications must be processed exclusively through the online portal, as the agency will permanently discontinue the acceptance of physical, paper-based applications.

In a landmark move aimed at transforming the nation’s immigration system, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially unveiled a fully digitalised platform for the application and processing of the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Alien Card (CERPAC).

This development represents a major stride in the ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s immigration processes in line with global standards.

The NIS, in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, announced that the digital platform is now active and operational.

The statement, which was signed by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) Kenneth Kure Akinlabi, detailed that both individuals and corporate organisations can now electronically complete, submit, and track applications for expatriate permits via the newly introduced portal.

This initiative aligns with the broader agenda of the Federal Government to promote transparency, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the quality of public service delivery.

The digital migration is designed to streamline processes, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and provide a more user-friendly experience for applicants.

As part of the transition plan, the NIS has set a clear deadline for the cessation of manual application submissions. Starting from August 1, 2025, all CERPAC applications must be processed exclusively through the online portal, as the agency will permanently discontinue the acceptance of physical, paper-based applications.

The introduction of the digital CERPAC platform not only underscores the government’s commitment to embracing technology but also aims to foster a more transparent and accountable system for managing expatriate residency and work permits in Nigeria.
