The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic and suspicious death of Grace Godwin, a 23-year-old woman whose body was found dumped by the roadside in the Jabi area of Abuja.
Grace is suspected to have been a victim of a ‘one-chance’ syndicate — criminal gangs who pose as commercial vehicle operators to rob, assault, or kidnap unsuspecting passengers.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday.
She assured that the police are actively probing the circumstances surrounding Grace’s death and are working to track down the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
IREPORT247NEWS gathered that the tragic incident unfolded on Friday, July 11, 2025, when Grace, a petrol station attendant, was allegedly abducted while returning home from work.

Her lifeless body was subsequently discovered early the following morning, Saturday, July 12, along Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in the Jabi district of the FCT.
The news of her death has sparked outrage and grief, especially among her community members. Comrade Adanu Andrew, President of the Voice of Apa and Agatu Initiative for Development, while confirming her identity, disclosed that the deceased hailed from Ekaida in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Comrade Andrew expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Grace, describing her as a disciplined and cultured young woman whose life was tragically cut short by criminal elements.
He strongly refuted rumours circulating on social media that linked Grace’s death to a hookup arrangement, clarifying that she was an innocent victim who met her untimely end while trying to make her way home from work.
“It is important to set the record straight. Contrary to a misleading post circulating on Facebook, Grace did not go out for a hookup or any immoral activity,” Andrew emphasized.
“She was abducted by suspected kidnappers — the so-called ‘one-chance’ criminals — while heading home after her work shift. Her death is a great loss to her family, friends, and community.”
Andrew urged the general public to disregard the misinformation being peddled online and instead join calls for justice for Grace. He further appealed to the security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending those responsible for her abduction and murder.

The FCT Police Command has assured residents that efforts are underway to strengthen security and bring the culprits to book.
Meanwhile, Grace’s family, friends, and members of the Benue community in the FCT continue to mourn her untimely death, calling for swift justice and greater protection for law-abiding citizens.
