The commissioning of 102 state-of-the-art buses acquired for the newly rebranded Edoline Mass Transit Scheme in Edo State has been postponed as a mark of respect for the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
This was announced by the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who emphasized the need for solemnity during this period of national mourning.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, the Governor explained that proceeding with the scheduled flag-off ceremony in the wake of such a monumental national loss would be inappropriate and insensitive. He noted that the mood of the nation demands reflection and respect for the legacy of the late President.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a towering statesman and an emblem of Nigeria’s democratic journey and governance history.
“His passing is a significant moment for our nation, and it is only fitting that we demonstrate our collective grief with due reverence. In light of this, we have made the decision to suspend the unveiling of the Edoline buses until a more suitable time,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
The Governor conveyed his deepest condolences to the immediate family of the late President, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians who are united in mourning this irreplaceable national figure.
Governor Okpebholo also expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may have caused to invited guests, dignitaries, stakeholders, and members of the public who had been looking forward to the event.
He assured that a new date for the commissioning would be communicated after the appropriate mourning period.
Despite the deferment, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing public transportation in the state.
He assured residents that the Edoline Mass Transit Scheme will soon become fully operational, providing a reliable, efficient, and people-focused transport system to improve intra-city mobility across Edo State.
