The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to securing every part of the state and ensuring no territory is left vulnerable to criminal elements.

Speaking during the official launch of the Abia State Security Trust Fund at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, the state capital, the governor emphasized that security remains a top priority of his government.

Governor Otti called on all Abians and residents to take an active and deliberate interest in security matters within their communities.

According to him, ensuring a safe and secure environment should not be left solely to the government or security agencies, but must be a collective responsibility shared by all members of society.

“To counter the enormous cost of the security crisis, all of us are invited to always take more than a passing interest in security issues in our neighbourhoods, places of business, and in the larger community,” he urged.

Describing the establishment of the Security Trust Fund as a key pillar of his administration’s comprehensive approach to crime prevention, Governor Otti explained that the initiative is backed by the Abia State Security Trust Fund Law of 2024.

This law, he said, provides a legal framework for mobilizing, managing, and deploying resources specifically to support security operations across the state.

“Insecurity creates economic and social crises, impoverishes the population, and makes refugees of individuals and families in their homeland,” the governor warned. He noted that addressing insecurity is not just about combating crime, but also about preserving the socio-economic stability and prosperity of the state.

Governor Otti also highlighted the financial transparency and accountability of his administration, pledging that all funds raised through the Trust Fund would be utilized judiciously.

“Our government has shown prudence in the management of public resources, and I assure you that every kobo contributed will be accounted for and directed towards strengthening our security systems,” he stated.

Reflecting on his administration’s efforts since taking office, the governor recalled his initial pledge to reclaim every inch of Abia’s territory from criminal elements who had seized control of some areas.

He expressed satisfaction with the relative peace now experienced in the state, attributing the progress to the effectiveness of initiatives like Operation Crush and other security interventions.

Governor Otti concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the safety of lives and property in Abia State, stressing that his administration would not relent until the state becomes one of the safest in the country.

“We will not rest on our laurels. Security is a continuous task, and we are committed to staying ahead of those who threaten our collective peace.”
