Safuratu AbdulKarim, a two-time deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has publicly declared her support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the ruling party genuinely means well for the country and is demonstrating this through its performance in governance.

Speaking on Saturday during the local government elections held in Badagry, Lagos State, AbdulKarim confirmed her recent defection to the APC, describing it as a decision driven by her assessment of the party’s development efforts.

“Upon careful observation, I am convinced that my move to the APC has been justified by their visible achievements. The party has shown that it is committed to the progress of the people,” she said.

Reflecting on the conduct of the local council elections in her area, AbdulKarim asserted that there was virtually no opposition presence in Badagry. According to her, the dominance of the APC was evident as the majority of the residents are loyal to the party.

“In Badagry, opposition parties have accepted their fate. The APC enjoys overwhelming support from the people here,” she added.

AbdulKarim also commended the women in the area for their active participation in the electoral process, praising them for turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had earlier confirmed that the local council election was conducted across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). According to LASIEC, a total of 15 out of the 18 registered political parties fielded candidates in the election.

The poll was monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), which reported smooth proceedings in many parts of the state, including Badagry.
