Chelsea face a monumental task tomorrow Sunday July 13th, 2025 as they aim to stop Paris Saint-Germain from completing a historic clean sweep in the final of FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup.

The clash at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — expected to be attended the U.S. President Donald Trump — caps a month-long tournament and could see PSG add global honours to their Ligue 1 and Champions League titles.

Luis Enrique’s side have swept aside all before them this season, hammering Inter Milan 5-0 to lift the European crown in May before routing Atletico Madrid, Inter Miami, Bayern Munich, and most recently, Kylian Mbappé’s Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals.

“This has been our objective all season,” Enrique said. “But very few teams can achieve what we are trying to do.”

Despite PSG’s dominant form and status as overwhelming favourites, French Forward Désiré Doué insists there’s no room for complacency.

“We’re not over-confident,” said the French international. “We know nothing is won until the final whistle.”

Chelsea, however, are no mere passengers. The London side arrive in the final after winning the UEFA Conference League and securing a top-four Premier League finish. En route to New Jersey, they beat Benfica, Palmeiras, and Fluminense after an early group loss to Flamengo.

“If everyone thinks we’re going to lose, then we have nothing to lose,” said defender Levi Colwill. “We just have to be confident and play our football.”

Club captain Reece James echoed the sentiment: “PSG are one of the hottest teams in the world, but it’s a final — anything can happen.”

Both clubs are already set to earn more than $100 million in prize money, a major boost particularly for Chelsea after recent UEFA sanctions for financial breaches.

However, player welfare remains in focus, with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez warning that the 3:00 pm local kickoff in high summer heat poses serious risks.

“We’ve felt it in training — playing at this time is very dangerous,” he said.

Win or lose, the final marks the end of a historic inaugural edition of FIFA’s revamped Club World Cup — one that may yet crown PSG as undisputed kings of world football.
