Two senior officials of the Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, earlier declared wanted by the police, have voluntarily turned themselves in for questioning over their alleged involvement in the violent assault of the council’s administrator, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor.

The officials, identified as Mr. Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the LGA, and Mr. Aloni Olodi, the Chief of Staff (COS), reportedly surrendered to the Rivers State Police Command on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m. They had been declared wanted on July 6, 2025, following their failure to respond to a police invitation concerning the alleged attack.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, the duo were promptly interviewed by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, and members of the police management team.

After the preliminary interrogation, the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.

The incident at the heart of the allegations occurred roughly three weeks ago. The police had earlier accused the two officials of masterminding a violent invasion of the council secretariat, allegedly leading a group of about 30 youths who forcefully stormed the premises.

During the invasion, the suspects were said to have physically assaulted Administrator Iheanachor, dispossessed him of his mobile phone and important official documents, and coerced him into signing a resignation letter under duress.

As a result of their alleged roles in the incident, the police declared Mr. Ekakita and Mr. Olodi wanted on multiple charges, including attempted murder, physical assault, and theft.

In her official statement, SP Iringe-Koko emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and reiterated the police’s commitment to a transparent and impartial investigation. She also appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could support the ongoing probe.

“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the suspects, Mr. Hector Ekakita and Mr. Aloni Olodi, earlier declared wanted in connection with the criminal conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and stealing from Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, have presented themselves to the command at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt,” the statement read.

“They were subsequently interviewed by the Commissioner of Police and his management team, and thereafter handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCIID for detailed investigation.”

CP Adepoju also underscored the importance of public support in the pursuit of justice, assuring citizens of the command’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order in Rivers State.

“The Command remains committed to maintaining peace and justice in Rivers State and assures the public that the investigation into this matter will be thorough and conducted with the utmost transparency,” he stated.
