The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has praised the Super Falcons of Nigeria for their strong start at the ongoing 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, after becoming the first team to book a spot in the quarterfinals.
The nine-time African champions have made a statement of intent in Group B, opening their campaign with a dominant 3–0 win over Tunisia, followed by a hard-fought 1–0 victory against Botswana on Thursday. With six points from two matches, the Super Falcons have sealed early progression to the knockout stage.

Reacting to the team’s performance, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, applauded the players and coaching staff for their professionalism, discipline, and determination.

“Slowly but surely, the best team in Africa is progressing toward winning a tenth continental title,” said Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency. “Winning their first two matches in dominant fashion shows their seriousness and capability. The Super Falcons are clearly focused on reclaiming their crown.”
National Support and High Expectations
Hon. Amadu reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Nigerian government and citizens, noting that the entire nation is rallying behind the team in their quest for continental glory.
“The Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and over 180 million Nigerians are fully behind the Super Falcons,” he said. “We are confident they can go all the way to the final and lift the trophy after a seven-year wait.”
Nigeria last won the WAFCON title in 2018, and expectations are high that the current squad—led by head coach Randy Waldrum—can end the wait and deliver a record-extending tenth championship.
What’s Next for the Falcons?
The Super Falcons will wrap up their Group B fixtures with a match against Algeria on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Having already qualified, Nigeria may choose to rotate their squad in preparation for the quarterfinals, scheduled for Friday and Saturday next week.
The identity of Nigeria’s quarterfinal opponent will be determined after the final group-stage matches conclude.

Hon. Amadu concluded his remarks by highlighting the depth and quality of the current squad, praising the blend of experience and youth. He expressed confidence that the team has all it takes to restore Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
