The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of two individuals and injuries to ten others in a fatal road accident that occurred along the Ringim-Kano Road in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Umar Mas’ud, the crash, which took place around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, involved two Volkswagen vehicles. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking.
Thirteen persons were involved in the crash, all of whom are reportedly from Bareda village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a statement made to journalists on Friday in Dutse, the state capital, Mr. Mas’ud disclosed that, in the course of the rescue operation, FRSC personnel recovered a total of ₦2,166,700. The money belonged to one of the deceased victims and one survivor of the crash.
The recovered sum was promptly handed over to the relatives of the victims in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, ASP Abdullahi Ibrahim.
The Sector Commander commended the personnel of the Corps’ Unit Command responsible for the area, praising their honesty, professionalism, and transparency in handling the recovery and return of the funds.
“It is my pleasure to inform the general public that during the rescue operation in the Ringim area on Thursday, our officers recovered the sum of ₦2,166,700,” Mas’ud stated. “After a detailed investigation, and with the cooperation of the police, the money was safely returned to the victims’ families.”
He reassured the public of the Corps’ unwavering commitment to integrity, compassion, and transparency in the discharge of its duties.
Mas’ud issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to avoid reckless driving behaviors such as overspeeding and wrongful overtaking, which are leading causes of road traffic crashes.
