The Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has dismissed six female recruits from its training camp after they were found to be pregnant prior to the commencement of their training.

This decision followed a routine pregnancy screening conducted on approximately 125 female recruits currently undergoing training at the agency’s facility.

Speaking on the matter, the State Corps Commander, retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, said the move reflects the agency’s unwavering commitment to upholding the safety, health, and well-being of its personnel, while also maintaining strict standards of discipline and professionalism within the corps.

According to Commander Adedigba, the agency’s action was not punitive but a precautionary step aimed at safeguarding the pregnant women from health risks associated with the physically demanding nature of the three-week training programme.

He warned that continuing under such strenuous conditions could potentially lead to complications such as miscarriages or birth defects.

“The training we conduct is physically intensive and demanding,” the Commander explained. “We cannot, in good conscience, expose these women or their unborn children to unnecessary risks.

“There’s a real concern that the rigorous physical activity could jeopardize their pregnancies or result in deformities. This is a difficult, but necessary, decision taken in line with our long-standing policy of ensuring a safe training environment for all.”

He further emphasized that the agency’s commitment to public safety also extends to protecting the health of its recruits, particularly in situations where medical vulnerabilities exist.

Despite the decision to discharge the affected recruits, Commander Adedigba expressed deep admiration for their patriotism and eagerness to serve the state.

He noted that their enthusiasm to protect lives and property in Ogun State is commendable and encouraged them to return for future recruitment opportunities after giving birth and regaining full fitness.

“We truly appreciate their willingness to serve,” he said. “Their dedication is not in doubt. However, we must prioritize their health and that of their unborn children.

“We look forward to welcoming them back once they are physically ready. Their dreams of contributing to our mission remain valid, and we will gladly receive them when they are able to reapply.”

The Commander concluded by reaffirming the agency’s resolve to ensure all training exercises are conducted under conditions that pose no health risk to recruits.

He assured the public that Amotekun remains focused on building a well-disciplined, capable, and healthy workforce dedicated to securing the lives and property of residents across the state.
