African Democratic Congress (ADC) interim leadership, under the chairmanship of former Senate President David Mark, held a crucial strategy meeting with all 37 state chairmen of the party, including that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Wednesday in Abuja.

The meeting came amid rising political speculations about internal discontent and was aimed at dispelling rumours of division while reaffirming commitment to the party’s coalition-building agenda and ongoing reorganisation efforts.

Speaking to journalists after the closed-door session, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the meeting was convened to reassure state chairmen of their continued relevance and involvement in party affairs.

“We invited all the state chairmen to assure them that there is no plan to push them aside,” he said. “We called this meeting to put to rest the false narratives circulating that the new leadership seeks to hijack the party. Our goal is unity and transparency.”

Abdullahi described the chairmen as critical allies in repositioning the ADC for future success. “This meeting has strengthened the bond between the national leadership and our state structures. Our chairmen are leaving Abuja today more confident and better informed. They know they remain central to the party’s future,” he added.

In response to recent comments by the party’s former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu—who questioned the legitimacy of the interim leadership and the coalition process—Abdullahi dismissed the concerns.

“A presidential candidate is not an officer of the party; he is simply a member. Anyone who believes the process violates the ADC constitution is welcome to challenge it. So far, no official objection has been raised by any member,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Kingsley Ogga, Chairman of the ADC Forum of State Chairmen and Kogi State Chairman, expressed the unwavering support of all state chairmen for the interim leadership and the coalition agenda spearheaded by Senator Mark.

“The state chairmen are united in their backing of the current leadership and its vision. Today’s meeting has deepened our sense of purpose and unity,” Ogga affirmed.

The gathering, which brought together key stakeholders from across the nation, is seen as a timely intervention to reinforce trust, stability, and strategic alignment within the party as it moves forward with reform efforts.
