Let it be clear: we are not armed with bullets; we are armed with ballots. When the time comes, we will present the Nigerian people with credible solutions and a compelling alternative vision. It is up to the citizens to choose

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly denied allegations of plotting to destabilize the Nigerian government, asserting that any change in leadership will be pursued solely through democratic and lawful means.

The party emphasized its unwavering commitment to constitutional processes, stating that it has no intention of undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, issued this clarification in response to a recent statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga had alleged that elements within the opposition were conspiring to remove the President before the end of his tenure, accusing them of forming a coalition devoid of genuine ideological direction.

In his statement, Onanuga dismissed the credibility of the coalition, claiming that many of its members were former All Progressives Congress (APC) members who had left the party either years or months ago. He argued that their unity was not built on a shared national vision but on a mutual dislike for President Tinubu.

“A political alliance held together only by animosity toward President Tinubu, without a coherent or constructive agenda, cannot offer meaningful leadership to Nigeria,” Onanuga said.

“These individuals are not patriots, but opportunists hungry for power, willing to exploit public discontent for personal gain.”

Echoing Onanuga’s sentiments, another presidential spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Dare, criticized the opposition’s ambition, characterizing it as driven by “avarice and opportunism” rather than a genuine desire to serve the country’s best interests.

In a swift rebuttal, Abdullahi labeled Onanuga’s comments as “reckless and baseless,” accusing the Tinubu administration of attempting to silence dissent and intimidate opposition voices under the guise of national security concerns.

“We reject in totality the tweet from President Tinubu’s aide suggesting that the opposition is plotting to topple the government before 2027,” Abdullahi said.

“Such inflammatory accusations are not only unfounded but appear to be a deliberate attempt to create a pretext for a targeted crackdown on opposition parties.”

He reiterated that the ADC is firmly rooted in democratic values and that its objective is to rescue Nigeria through the electoral process—not by force.

“Let it be clear: we are not armed with bullets; we are armed with ballots. When the time comes, we will present the Nigerian people with credible solutions and a compelling alternative vision. It is up to the citizens to choose,” Abdullahi concluded.
