The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 22 individuals arrested in connection with the brutal mob attack in Mangun community, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA), will be formally arraigned in court on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
The suspects are linked to the horrific incident that occurred on the night of Friday, June 20, 2025, where a group of innocent travellers—wedding guests en route to Qua’an Pan LGA—were ambushed and attacked.
According to police reports, the assault happened around 9:47 p.m. when a commercial bus transporting 31 passengers from Zaria, Kaduna State, mistakenly strayed into Mangun village after losing its way.
Tragically, the vehicle was intercepted by a violent mob, and despite the passengers posing no threat, the attackers set the bus ablaze.
At least 13 individuals, including women and children, were burnt alive in what authorities have described as a “senseless and inhumane” act. The other occupants of the bus were severely injured or narrowly escaped the flames.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Plateau State Police revealed that the victims had unintentionally veered off their original travel route, which led them into the hostile area where the mob attack took place.
The victims were headed to attend a wedding ceremony and were not in any way connected to any form of provocation or conflict in the region.
The Commissioner of Police, through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, disclosed that 22 individuals have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
He stated that the suspects would face charges and appear before Court 10 of the Plateau State High Court by 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.
In a statement released late Wednesday night, DSP Alabo extended an official invitation to accredited members of the press to attend and cover the court proceedings.
He also announced that a vehicle would be provided to transport journalists from the court premises to the Plateau State Police Command Headquarters for a post-arraignment press briefing to be addressed by the Commissioner of Police.
The Plateau State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the atrocity are brought to justice. Authorities have also assured the public that additional measures are being taken to prevent such tragic incidents in the future and to maintain peace across the state.
