The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Prince Femi Badia, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), leading several members of the party across Lagos Central Senatorial District into the APC fold.

Badia made the announcement during the APC Mega Rally for Lagos Central Senatorial District, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (formerly Onikan Stadium), Lagos.

According to him, the decision to dump the LP was driven by the impressive performance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the need to support both the Governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He stated that he and his supporters were joining forces with the APC to contribute to its victory in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday.

“We are here to collaborate with APC to deliver victories in the coming council elections across all local governments. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to speak to our people today.

“I can assure you that by Saturday, we will deliver our polling units. Operation ‘Go to Your Polling Units and Deliver for APC’ begins now. And come 2027, our President will triumph again,” Badia declared.

He also thanked APC leaders for receiving them, noting that the defectors came from four local governments in the senatorial district.

Receiving the defectors, Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, expressed appreciation to Alhaji Babatunde Balogun, Chairman of the Local Government Campaign Council, for facilitating the defection.

Ojelabi handed over the party’s flags to the new members and applauded their decision to join the progressives.

“Thank you for recognizing the value and vision of the progressives. I warmly welcome you on board. Be assured of your full integration into the APC.

“However, I must stress that rewards will come through hard work and the positive value you bring to the party. Our candidates are going to build on the achievements of Governor Sanwo-Olu, and they will not disappoint you,” Ojelabi said.

He added that the opposition is in disarray, and the APC remains the party to beat in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, called on party faithful to arm themselves with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in readiness for Saturday’s polls. He also urged party leaders and members to mobilize massively within the Lagos Central Senatorial District.

“We must not disappoint our President on Saturday. Tinubu is a man of his word — promise made, promise kept. We’ve done so much for Lagos State. We have a party that we can proudly present to the people,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, encouraged voters to cast their votes in favour of APC candidates across the board.
