The Lagos State Police Command has announced a comprehensive security arrangement ahead of the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.

As part of its efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process, the Command has imposed a total restriction on vehicular movement across the state from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election day.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the restriction covers all roads and waterways, with only essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and security patrol teams directly involved in election duties permitted to operate during the period.

The Police further clarified that only accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), election observers, and media personnel will be exempted from the movement ban, provided they display valid LASIEC-issued identification tags.

As part of measures to secure polling and collation centres, the Command has banned the use of armed escorts and private security aides.

Politicians, public officials, and other principals will not be allowed entry into voting or collation centres with armed personnel, and the use of sirens or vehicles with covered number plates near electoral venues has also been strictly prohibited.

Issuing a stern warning, the Police stated that any individual or group found violating the movement restrictions or engaging in electoral violence will face immediate arrest and prosecution.

The Command urged parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against any form of electoral disruption or thuggery.

Furthermore, the public has been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police via the following emergency lines: 08063299264 and 08065154338.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and ensuring that voters across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas can exercise their franchise in a safe, secure, and conducive environment.
