The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident that occurred in the Choba area of the state, where a young woman allegedly set her boyfriend’s residence on fire, resulting in his death.
According to an official statement released by the Command, the victim, identified as 32-year-old Saint Sunny Amadi, was severely burned in the blaze and rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for urgent medical attention.
Sadly, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away while undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was allegedly started by Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level female student at the University of Port Harcourt.
She is also reported to be heavily pregnant with the deceased’s child. The incident reportedly took place inside a room where both individuals were present.
Police officers from the Choba Division responded swiftly to the distress call, arriving at the scene at approximately 11:12 a.m.
They proceeded to inspect both the scene of the incident and the victim’s condition at the hospital. Unfortunately, the severity of Mr. Amadi’s burns led to his untimely death.
Miss Chukwundah also sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Due to the extent of her injuries, she has not yet been able to provide a full statement to the police. Authorities have, however, confirmed that she will be questioned in detail once her health improves.
The Rivers State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including what may have led to such a fatal confrontation. At the time of this report, the exact motive and cause of the fire remain undetermined.
The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring justice and have promised to release further updates as new information becomes available.
