The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, who is accused of murdering his former employer, Mr. Kola Adun, and attempting to sell the deceased’s car in Lagos.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was apprehended while trying to sell a Toyota Camry belonging to the deceased in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The gruesome crime came to light after residents of River Valley Estate, located in the Ojodu Berger area, alerted police authorities over a foul odour emanating from a nearby apartment.

Odutola disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of the Ojodu Abiodun Division received a distress call at about 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2025, from concerned residents in the Mubarak area of Akute.

Responding swiftly, officers proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street within the estate and, upon forcing entry into the locked premises, discovered the decomposing corpse of Mr. Kola Adun in his apartment on the first floor.

The body was found bearing multiple visible stab wounds, with bloodstains littered throughout the scene, strongly suggesting foul play.

Further investigation revealed that suspicions were initially raised the previous day, Saturday, when a close friend of the deceased had gone to pick him up for Sunday church service.

On arrival, the friend found the gate locked from the outside and was unable to reach Mr. Adun via his mobile phone, which later became completely unreachable. The friend, growing increasingly worried, informed the family and eventually contacted the police.

Preliminary findings indicate that Ayomide Oluwadamilare, who had previously worked as the victim’s driver, allegedly broke into Mr. Adun’s residence on Saturday, murdered him, and stole his Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 193 GC.

The case took a significant turn when the suspect approached a car dealer in Ijede, Ikorodu, attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

The dealer, suspicious of Oluwadamilare’s inconsistent story and demeanor, promptly notified the police, leading to the suspect’s immediate arrest at the point of sale.

Following his arrest, the remains of Mr. Adun were transported to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for a post-mortem examination.

Odutola confirmed that the matter has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The police have assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly to the authorities.
