The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man, Gabriel Pius, for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Abu Simon, to death following a domestic disagreement.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the tragic incident took place in the Idanre Local Government Area and was reported to the police by a concerned family acquaintance.

The altercation, which escalated into fatal violence, occurred on the evening of Thursday, June 27, 2025.

“On 27th June 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., one Gabriel Michael reported the fatal stabbing of Mr. Abu Simon by his younger brother, Gabriel Pius, following a domestic misunderstanding,” the Commissioner stated.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Idanre Division were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they swiftly apprehended the suspect. Gabriel Pius was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Akure for further interrogation.

Commissioner Lawal added that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

In a related development, the Ondo State Police Command has announced several notable breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.

These include the arrest of an armed robbery syndicate, suspected cult members, and internet fraudsters over the last two weeks.

One of the most significant arrests was that of a notorious four-man armed robbery gang linked to multiple violent attacks and vehicle thefts in Akure, Owo, Ondo, and nearby towns. The arrests followed a high-profile robbery operation in Akure on the same day the fratricide occurred—June 27.

According to CP Lawal, the Command’s Tactical Intelligence and Response Squad (TIRS) successfully trailed and apprehended two of the suspects outside Ondo State. Their arrests led to the capture of two more gang members, including a well-known buyer of stolen goods.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that this gang is part of a larger car-snatching and trafficking syndicate operating across several states,” the police chief disclosed.

The police recovered a stolen vehicle, multiple mobile phones, and other stolen property from the suspects. Efforts are currently ongoing to track down additional members of the criminal network, including a suspected arms dealer who is believed to have supplied weapons to the gang and is presently on the run.

Commissioner Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across Ondo State.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
