The soldiers on duty did their best to resist the attackers, but the assailants outnumbered them and overwhelmed their position.

A tragic incident unfolded on Monday, July 7, in Ogaminana, located in the Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, when armed men suspected to be kidnappers launched a deadly attack at a construction site.

During the ambush, a Nigerian soldier attached to the site for security duty was shot and killed while trying to defend the workers.

According to reports, the gunmen stormed the site with the apparent intention of abducting foreign workers.

They forcefully seized a Chinese national and fled the scene, taking the captive with them. The swift and violent operation caused panic in the area, disrupting ongoing construction activities.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the kidnappers abandoned their operational vehicle near the Radio Kogi Booster Station junction in Otite, a short distance from the initial abduction site.

This development suggests the abductors may have pre-arranged an escape plan involving multiple vehicles or routes.

In response to the attack, a combined team of military personnel, police officers, local hunters, and vigilante groups immediately launched a coordinated pursuit.

Their rapid intervention proved effective as the pressure forced the kidnappers to release the abducted Chinese worker unharmed.

A local source disclosed that the joint task force continued combing the surrounding bush areas in search of the fleeing criminals, expressing hope that the perpetrators would soon be apprehended.

“The soldiers on duty did their best to resist the attackers, but the assailants outnumbered them and overwhelmed their position.

“The situation underscores the urgent need for authorities to deploy additional security personnel to the area and other vulnerable locations nearby,” the source added.

As of the time of this report, the Kogi State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
