Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, famously known as Ogogo, has revealed disturbing details of a prolonged health challenge that nearly claimed his life. The respected Yoruba film icon disclosed in a recent interview that he once vomited blood for seven straight months—a revelation that shocked fans and colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.

Ogogo made the revelation while speaking with the media during a health awareness campaign event in Ogun State, where he urged Nigerians to take their well-being seriously and seek early medical intervention.

“It was a very tough time in my life. I was vomiting blood constantly for seven months. I thought it was the end,” the 65-year-old actor stated emotionally.

Although Ogogo did not specify the exact diagnosis, he hinted that the illness was tied to years of physical exertion, stress, and neglecting regular health checks.

“Back then, I believed I was strong and could endure anything. But the body has limits. One day, it just started—first dizziness, then blood in my vomit, and it didn’t stop for months.”

He noted that the condition was so severe that even his family began to fear the worst. Ogogo said he avoided public appearances during the ordeal, as his health deteriorated rapidly, and he became unrecognizable to many.

After months of self-medication and home remedies, Ogogo revealed that he finally accepted the need to seek proper medical attention at a specialized hospital in Lagos.

“I was stubborn at first, using herbs and prayers. But after some months, I gave in. The doctors helped me, and today I’m thankful I listened.”

His eventual recovery, he said, was due to a combination of medical treatment, rest, and spiritual support from family and friends.

Ogogo now uses his platform to advocate for regular check-ups, especially for men over 40 who often ignore symptoms until they become critical.

Following his revelation, fans flooded social media with prayers, tributes, and emotional messages, hailing the actor’s bravery and openness.

“Ogogo is a legend. He’s part of our childhood. Thank God he made it,” wrote @classic_film_bae on Instagram.

Nollywood colleagues including Yinka Quadri, Fathia Balogun, and Odunlade Adekola also posted messages of love and admiration.

“Brother Ogogo is a fighter. We thank God for his life. May his testimony inspire others,” said Yinka Quadri.

Despite the health scare, Ogogo has since returned to set, recently wrapping up scenes in the upcoming Yoruba epic “Ile Alayo: The King’s Oath.” He said the experience has made him more intentional about the roles he accepts, prioritizing health over hustle.

“I won’t kill myself for scripts. If I don’t feel well, I stay home. I’ve learned that your health is your true wealth.”
