I’m here to formally declare my intention to contest the governorship of Oyo State in 2027. I have learned valuable lessons from my experiences in the last two elections, and I am now better prepared

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has taken significant steps towards his 2027 gubernatorial ambition by engaging with leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across key geopolitical zones in Oyo State.

His consultation tour recently took him to the Ogbomoso and Oyo zones, where he sought support and reconciliation among party members.

Accompanied by prominent APC leaders from Ibadan, Adelabu visited the Ogbomoso residence of the late former Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, where he paid solemn respects at his tomb (mausoleum). This symbolic gesture underscored Adelabu’s acknowledgement of the legacy and influence of the late political figure in the region.

In Ogbomoso, Adelabu held a strategic meeting at the home of Senator Ayoade Adeseun, one of the party’s respected leaders in the zone.

During the engagement, he made a passionate appeal for unity and forgiveness among aggrieved members of the APC. He emphasized that the party must focus on reclaiming political power in the 2027 elections.

“I’m here to formally declare my intention to contest the governorship of Oyo State in 2027. I have learned valuable lessons from my experiences in the last two elections, and I am now better prepared,” Adelabu stated. “My ambition does not oppose any other zone’s aspiration. I believe in divine timing—God’s time is the best.”

He further highlighted the strategic importance of Ogbomoso in determining electoral outcomes in Oyo State. “Ogbomoso holds a critical position in Oyo State politics. That is why I’m here, seeking your full support. I’m especially pleased to see that various factions in the zone are now united.”

Adelabu used the platform to canvass support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential re-election, stressing the benefits the Yoruba region—and Ogbomoso in particular—have gained under his administration. “It is the Yoruba’s turn to complete two presidential terms. Nigeria stands to gain much more under Tinubu’s continued leadership,” he said.

He pointed out that several notable sons of Ogbomoso had been appointed into key federal positions by President Tinubu. “Zaccheus Adedeji, your son, was appointed Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Sunday Dare now serves as Special Adviser on Strategic Communications to the President.

I also appointed Bolaji Tunji as my own Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications. These appointments show Tinubu’s goodwill towards Ogbomoso, and he will do more if given the opportunity to serve a second term,” Adelabu added.

Former lawmaker Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, son of the late Governor, alongside Senator Adeseun, echoed the need for unity within the party. They urged APC members to put their differences aside and work collectively to secure victory in the 2027 elections.

Continuing his consultation, Adelabu addressed APC leaders, members, and stakeholders in Oyo town. There, he reiterated his promise to run an inclusive government, vowing to carry every stakeholder along if elected as governor. “No one will be left out. I intend to build a government where every voice matters,” he said.

He dismissed the notion of imposition within the party, affirming his readiness to earn the ticket through hard work and open competition. “I want to show that I am capable, that I can compete and emerge victorious through merit and grassroots support,” he declared.

Adelabu also emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the Oyo zone, pledging to prioritize its development. “Oyo is not just another town; it is a historical and symbolic heartbeat of the state. It deserves fair and improved treatment under any government I lead.”

Adding his voice, the lawmaker representing Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West Federal Constituency, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, affirmed Adelabu’s determination to secure the governorship seat.

He stated that the Minister’s ongoing consultations were a clear demonstration of his seriousness and commitment to inclusive leadership.
