The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has firmly declared that its platform will not be available to former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for any future political ambition, including the 2027 general elections.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

This assertion was made by the National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Agbo Major, in a statement issued on Saturday, in response to recent claims by Elder Buba Galadima suggesting that Kwankwaso would once again contest the presidency on the NNPP platform.

Galadima, a known ally of Kwankwaso, had earlier dismissed speculations about the former Kano governor defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting instead that they would remain in the NNPP and strategize until the political race for 2027 officially begins. He had also urged Nigerians to rally behind Kwankwaso as a credible presidential hopeful.

However, Dr. Major dismissed Galadima’s assertions as misleading and unfounded, emphasizing that both Kwankwaso and Galadima had been officially expelled from the NNPP for engaging in anti-party activities.

“The NNPP severed ties with the Kwankwasiya Movement shortly after the 2023 general elections. The Memorandum of Understanding we once had with Senator Kwankwaso and his group is no longer in effect,” Major stated.

He further revealed that Kwankwaso’s previous involvement with the NNPP caused deep internal divisions and unwarranted legal battles. One of the major controversies, he said, was the alteration of the party’s official logo to that of the Kwankwasiya movement without proper consultation or approval.

“Kwankwaso unilaterally changed our party logo during an illegitimate convention held in Abuja, an act that nearly destabilized the party’s structure,” Major said.

“It took court intervention for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revert to the original NNPP logo.”

He added that Kwankwaso’s actions during and after the 2023 election cycle were a betrayal of the party’s trust. “He sought total control and wanted to dominate the party leadership. Such conduct is incompatible with our values, and for that reason, he and his faction remain expelled.”

Major also questioned Kwankwaso’s political credibility, asserting that the former governor lacks the leadership profile required to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any formidable presidential

“Kwankwaso is likely expecting another free presidential ticket like he received in 2023, but that will not happen again. The NNPP has moved beyond such political compromises,” he declared.

While reaffirming that Kwankwaso, like any Nigerian, reserves the constitutional right to pursue any elective position, the NNPP chairman stressed that such aspirations must not be linked to or carried out in the name of the NNPP.

“The party will not be drawn into personal antagonisms or vendettas against the presidency. Kwankwaso’s grievances against President Tinubu must be his own and not seen as that of the NNPP,” he stated.

Major disclosed that several new aspirants have begun approaching the NNPP in anticipation of the 2027 elections, and that the party remains open to engaging credible candidates through proper democratic processes.

“Anyone who seeks to emerge as our 2027 presidential candidate must do so through transparent and constitutional means. We will no longer offer our ticket on a silver platter, especially not to individuals who have betrayed our trust in the past.”

He concluded by urging the public to disregard any remarks or political moves made by Kwankwaso or his allies under the guise of representing the NNPP.

“As a party, the NNPP remains committed to issue-based and constructive criticism. We distance ourselves from personal attacks or smear campaigns.

“We encourage Kwankwaso to establish his own political party if he wishes to remain politically active. The NNPP has moved forward and will not be drawn into any further drama or distractions,” Major affirmed.
