Diego Leon has delivered a passionate message to Manchester United fans following the confirmation of his transfer on Saturday, vowing to give his all as he begins his journey at Old Trafford.

The highly rated 18-year-old left-back becomes United’s second signing of the summer, joining from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño in a deal worth an initial £3.3 million, potentially rising to £7 million with performance-related add-ons. He follows the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5 million move.

United’s Long-Term Investment

Leon’s move was initially agreed in January, but he officially joins ahead of the 2025/26 season. The club has indicated that the teenager will be integrated into both the first team and the academy setup, allowing him to develop under close supervision while potentially contributing under new manager Ruben Amorim.

He is expected to report for pre-season training later this month and is in line to be included in the squad for United’s summer tour of the United States, where the club will face top-level opposition as part of their preparations.

Leon’s First Words: “From Paraguay to the world”

Taking to Instagram shortly after the deal was announced, Leon expressed his gratitude and ambition:

“First of all, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to defend such a great badge as Manchester United,” he wrote.

“I promise to give my best every day — in training, on the pitch, and off it.

Thank you to the club for the trust and to my family for always being by my side.

I hope to bring a lot of joy to all the Manchester United fans and everyone who supports me on this journey.

One more goal achieved. From Paraguay to the world. Let’s go, Red Devils!”

A Rising Star from South America

Leon made waves in Paraguay as one of Cerro Porteño’s brightest youth prospects, known for his pace, technical ability, and composure in possession. His performances at youth level attracted interest from several European clubs, but United acted quickly to secure his signature early in the year.

The Red Devils have increasingly focused on identifying emerging South American talents, with Leon seen as part of a broader long-term strategy that brought in the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri in recent seasons.

With his move now complete, Leon begins a new chapter in Manchester — one filled with expectation, opportunity, and the chance to grow into a Premier League star.
